This receipt is written on stationary from the Quartermaster's Office, which was an office designated to distribute supplies to the troops. Dated May 20, 1863, this document chronicles the sale of 2 sacks of grain to be taken to Camp San Saba. Camp San Saba, located in Southeastern McCulloch County, was likely originally a station for the Texas Rangers. During the Civil War it was utilized as a camp for Confederate troops.
